Privacy
Document checks run on your computer.
Fylert checks supported Word, Excel and PowerPoint files on your device. Document contents are never uploaded for scanning, and checks are read-only, so Fylert does not modify the original files.
This page describes the privacy behavior of Fylert v1.0.0 Beta as currently implemented.
Announcements and feedback
Fylert does not send feedback until you choose to submit it.
When you open Settings, Fylert may request plain-text announcements. Feedback is sent only after you click a feedback option. These requests may include the app version and platform, and feedback also includes the selected helpful or not-helpful value.
- Announcement and feedback request payloads do not contain document information
- Feedback does not include free-form document content
- A failed request is dropped and does not affect local checks
Usage Metrics
Usage Metrics do not contain file names, file paths, document contents, specific scan results, user IDs or device IDs. You can turn them off in Settings.
After the first completed scan, Fylert asks whether you want to share aggregate scan-scale and performance metrics. Nothing is sent before you allow it. If allowed, each completed scan may send one aggregate metric containing:
- Total number and total size of deeply scanned files
- DOCX, XLSX and PPTX file counts
- Scan duration
- App version
- System platform
Product Analytics
If Product Analytics is allowed, a user-initiated update check may also send an update-check event with platform and app version. You can turn Product Analytics off in Settings.
Product Analytics uses a separate choice from Usage Metrics. On first launch, Fylert shows a notice. Clicking Continue allows Product Analytics and sends one app-launch event; while allowed, one app-launch event is sent on each later app launch. Closing the notice declines. Events include only fields needed for that event:
- Event type
- System platform
- App version
- Language setting for app-launch events
- Document contents
- File names or file paths
- Scan results
- User IDs or device IDs
Version checks and website analytics
The current Beta uses bundled mock data for version checks, so the version check itself does not contact a version service. On the public website, Fylert sends one anonymous page-view event for the first displayed page and for each later public page or language-route change. It contains only the system platform and a fixed traffic-source category: direct, GitHub, Product Hunt, LinkedIn, X, Reddit, YouTube, search, or other referral. It does not contain the page path. When you click an installer download button, Fylert also sends one anonymous download-click event containing only the selected platform and a fixed source label for the external channel or current public page. Fixed source labels may be kept in session storage for the current browser tab so they survive navigation and refreshes; they are categories, not identifiers. Fylert does not send or store a raw referrer, full page URL, arbitrary query value, cookie, session ID, user ID, device ID, file information, or document content.
Network and identity boundary
None of these online features upload document contents for scanning. Local document checks do not require a network connection.
Fylert's request payloads do not include an IP address, device ID or user ID. As with ordinary internet traffic, network providers and hosting infrastructure may still receive a source IP while delivering a request.
